You know you’ve hit the Are You Kidding Me level of frugality when you don’t want to buy that nice bag of cinnamon-scented pine cones for your holiday crafting pleasure. That’s highway robbery. And so, obviously, the only thing to do is go out in the woods and find your own.

These pictures were taken last Friday. Early December and just the tiniest amount of snow. There’s a little more now, much to my chagrin, but the lack of it on Friday meant the pine cones were easy to find.

Could I get these in the fall when they were nice and dry? No. No. Let’s get them in the winter when they’re wet and frozen. Beth has All the Good Ideas.

After collecting far more than I have any practical use for, we kept on walking. It was nearly windless in the trees. With no cold wind and a fairly warm air temperature, it was a good day for walking.

Once I figure out what the hell I’m going to do with 50 pine cones, I’ll let you know.

See you later!
