There is just not much happening around here. Posting has been less frequent lately because of that. I would call it “the winter blahs,” but then I would have to suffocate myself with a throw pillow for uttering such a horrible phrase. There are a few things I would like to talk about on here, and will do so later this week.
But right now, in this glorious moment, I have to mention my chickadee victory. For years I have complained about my complete inability to get a good picture of a chickadee. (Case in point, this post from last April.)
Tired of being outwitted by these birds (even if they do have elastic brains) I embraced my inner Wile E. Coyote and luuuuuured them in.

The feeder was up for about two days before they found it, and now my front yard is chickadee heaven. They’ve gotten used to us and now I can get pretty close before they fly off. (Exhibit A: this card in the Etsy shop.)

The only other birds it has attracted so far are nuthatches. I’m keeping an eye out for woodpeckers, but no luck yet.

Yes, in case you’re wondering, I am feeling fairly full of myself at the moment. Getting good chickadee pictures can now be crossed off the to-do list.
See you later!

  1. I just looked up nuthatches and I think yours is a red-breasted nuthatch. I've never seen one so they must not hang out in the South.

  2. Fantastic pictures! Congratulations on your chickadee conquest. What type of nuthatch is that? I normally see white-breasted nuthatches (maybe the males) and an occasional brown-headed nuthatch.
