Last Saturday I managed to get out of the house for reasons that did not involve grocery shopping or snow shoveling. It did, however, involve deer. Win-win.

The husband and I went for a ride out in the woods. We saw a few deer, and a lot of snow. And more snow. And a million-and-twelve snowmobile tracks.

But still. Deer! Not too many, but 5 or 6. A few took off running as soon as we slowed down in the truck, but some just stood there and gave wonderful stink-eye.

In case you’re not from a northern clime, this is what a woods road looks like in the winter. At least it’s plowed, which is more than I can say for most other woods roads.

Going out in the woods was the first real test-run I’ve had with the camera, and it performed admirably. The weather is supposed to warm up over the next few days, and I plan on entering Round 412 of Beth vs. The Chickadees. (It’s 410 Chickadees, 2 Beth at this point. I WILL GET PICTURES OF THE LITTLE DEVILS IF IT KILLS ME.)
See you later!

  1. Beautiful pictures! Luckily, on many days I can just look out my window to see deer in the yard. It's not quite the drive-through-the-woods-on-snow-packed-roads adventure that you had. It's the lazy way to photograph deer.

Funny, I was just thinking this morning that I haven't seen chickadees in a while this winter. Good luck with winning that photography challenge.
