Whenever my husband or I mow the lawn we always leave big patches of milkweed near the chicken coop. Milkweed is the only food that monarch butterfly larvae will eat, and we like to see the butterflies around the house.

And lo! Earlier this week, I spotted a butterfly that had just emerged from its chrysalis and was hanging around (literally) waiting for its wings to dry.

The monarchs that hatch in September and October are special ones – they are the ones that travel to warmer climates when it gets cold up North.

See you after the weekend!
