First, some artsy-fartsy shots.
Not only do they both bloom at the same time and make the yard smell fantastic, but they also attract butterflies and leave petals strewn everywhere.
We also have a huge patch of milkweed, which I never mow down.
Milkweed is the only thing that monarch butterfly larvae will eat, so maintaining a patch of milkweed guarantees lots of monarchs, and plenty of these guys:
